OCTOBER 25 – Further to the info below, Nick is now a permanent resident of Norfolk Island and is QRV as VK9DX.
AUGUST 24, 2021 – Nick, VK2DX informs DX-World he will be moving to Norfolk island later this year, and with a bit of luck, should be QRV as VK9DX from Christmas-time onward.
“80m is my favourite band so expect plenty of action there, all modes. Five acres hilltop property 400ft above ocean, with a number of 40m Norfolk pine trees. Unfortunately, both NSW and Norfolk Island are in heavy lockdown but we are optimistic that travel will resume in a month or two“.
Actually I don’t really see the problem! In my opinion, value is in the eye of the purchaser. If the contact is necessary or required for an award, or for a local competition or some other reason, then $5 is a small price to pay for it. But that’s me! Electricity and tubes for amps and/or radios and building and maintaining well working antennas, not to mention the ongoing upkeep of a station is not free. But once again, value is in the eye of the purchaser! de VK2PW
At the request of Nick, VK9DX comments are now closed on this post.
OK, so Nick’s charging for a LotW is back on, money talks after all. It’s a shame what the ham radio has come to.
$1 would be a resonable fee, if it has to go that way, but the $5 is just a greedy money making exercise.
Big pileups every day surely generate significant income this way. Maybe Australian tax office should have a look into this.
Greed leads to poverty
With the recent comment from you Nick, not doing LOTW at all due to a handfull of trolls is just punishing all those others who want a LOTW confirmation. I think you should maybe re-think that decision since it is a bit OFFBALANCE in my opinion.
Whether you charge for LOTW or not is not something I will comment on, its your prerogative.
Do something good.
Thanks to a small but very vocal bunch of trolls who are irritated by my LoTW policy, I have decided to close my LoTW account. There will be no LoTW confirmations in future, paid or free.
Happy DXing.
Nick VK9DX
Charging $5 for a paper QSL – that’s reasonable, but charging anything for LotW confirmation is selfish and against the ham spirit. It does NOT cost you anything to upload the log to LotW so you are NOT paying for anyone’s DX CC credit, it’s just a pure extortion.
Turning ham radio into a profitable activity only serves to erode the ham spirit and destroy the hobby, and you are handsomely contributing to it.
There is no need to get upset – Norfolk Island is not even in top 100 DXCC so most likely, you have it confirmed on multiple bands. If you don’t need it, don’t call . If you do call, and log me, there is absolutely no obligation to request neither a paper of LOTW confirmation. On the other hand, If you believe that a new DXCC is not worth a price of a coffee or one slice of pizza, or that I should pay for your card or DXCC credit, then you are completely disillusioned.
I am not asking for donations, or contributions, or your pittance. The ‘price’ is set purely on what I believe is a fair and reasonable amount of money to get YOU what YOU want- a DXCC confirmation . In addition, it is set at that level intentionally – to discourage stingy timewaster of sending $1 requests.
Like yours, my time is valuable. If you don’t appreciate it, then work someone else.

5$ for a single click on a computer, that’ is clearly not ham spirit and he do not deserve at all this visibility on DX World.
$5 for LOTW – SUPER!
Why work?
Just put him on my blacklist!
This man require $5 for LOTW upload..
I set him to black list. Recommend.
