The UBA (Royal Belgian Amateur Radio Union) follows the actions of mainstream sporting bodies with regard to all activities of a competitive nature such as contests, awards and ARDF. Russian and Belarusian radio amateurs are therefore currently ineligible to participate in any event that is organised/sponsored by the UBA.
@VK4MA
To be perfectly honest, Paul, it’s pointless batting back and forth opinions or disagreements. It does nothing other than go round in circles and is tedious. We each have our own thoughts (for or against) and no amount typing is going to change people’s minds. I know this might sound as a cop out, but in truth there’s far more important things in the world going on right now, regardless of “hypocrites” or whatever.
Maybe someone else will take up your challenge. I’m done.

The “justification” they have provided is just wrong on so many levels. It’s obvious that the decision makers have a huge disconnect with the amateur radio core values and quite close relationship with the politics of the day. What a disgrace, they should be ashamed of themselves!
Hello Col
A week or two ago you made a post asking two questions re this ham cancellation issue. I have two questions of my own which advocates of cancellation refuse to answer or address.
1 If this is indeed a moral and not a political or religious issue then why is it only the Ukraine conflict that has seen Russian hams get cancelled? What about our Yemeni brothers, our Syrian brothers, our Iraqi brothers our Afghan brothers? These brothers have been killed in far greater numbers in recent times and the only difference I can see is that these brothers are Muslim and are not European. So it would seem that religion and race does play a part here. Would you agree?
2 Why now? We have had a 100 years of ham radio in which dozens of countries have been invaded, nuclear bombs dropped, napalm utilised and only now has this great moral issue of not invading another country become an issue for championing by the ham radio community. Again, why now? Why only this Ukraine conflict?
Col ( or any one else) – if you can answer these two specific questions then may be it would help me understand this change in a 100 year ham radio tradition.

UBA didn’t actually have to answer or justify their decision, but they left a comment over on DX-World Facebook page which is shared here, and for general digest:
—
“The aggression of a country by its neighbours has nothing to do with religion or politics, but is rather a moral issue. Acting as if nothing is going on is rather hypocritical. We like to show the image of the radio amateurs who help their fellow citizens in emergency situations. To do nothing while our Ukrainian brothers are being slaughtered seems to us to be in total contradiction to the above. We stand by our decision”.
@VK4DX careful of name calling however right (or wrong) you think you are. Very many comments haven’t made it by the SPAM stage.
And here is another bunch of hypocritical idiots, falling for the western cancel culture and destroying what we have built for 100 years, just to appease the “elite”.
UBA, shame on you! Together with the RSGB, CQ Magazine and CRC you are a disgrace of the amateur radio world.
Well done, TNX!
