The department of Alta Verapaz, is the northernmost area of the apartments, houses green forests, turquoise pools, large caves and white water rivers. It houses about 1,800 species of vascular plants, 513 birds, 62 amphibians, 122 mammals and 95 reptiles, as well as more than 200 archaeological sites of the Mayan culture.
