Rolf DL7VEE reports the following:
There is no hope for a CE0X operation at this time; either from San Felix or San Ambrosio due to restrictions from the military. Dino, CE3PG President of Radio Club de Chile says he talked to Chilean Army officers who said no way – even regardless of Covid situation. He also warned that DXers should be aware of fake operations or scams which have been commonplace from Chilean hams before.
Never did I mention to delete San Felix! All I was asking that we should put more emphasis on activating other existing entities, where not the stupidy of mankind is the show-stopper, but mother nature.
However, since so many of our Chilean friends responded here and at the poll, I have hope that they will get something started some time. I have it confirmed from XQ0X, so it would not be an all-time new one for me.
But at this time I am wondering about the status of North Korea.
It was not on the DXCC list before 1995, it joined the United Nations in 1991. But what was the status before – just non existing for ham radio, but a real existing country.

No. Things change, and this situation will, also. It’s a legitimate country by DXCC standards and should remain so. The day will come again when amateur radio is allowed to operate from the islands. Until then, it should remain on the list.
i do not agree with the elimination of san feliz island since it is am emblematic territory and i believe that mani radio amateurs worldwide should be visited in expeditions and activations. without hesitation i would be one of those who would be delighted to visit the island and bring my radio equipment and antennas to spend a week there doing a lot of radio. regards. xq1kk.
OK. So the Chilean Navy will not allow anybody on San Felix. But what about San Ambrosio? As best as I can tell, it’s part of the same DXCC entity.
Looking at it with Google Earth it appears to be a large barren rock without a hint of any human activity on it. Accessing it may be a challenge but what is preventing it from being activated?

First it is a Chilean Navy and not an Army installation.
Second it is a security area, everybody suspect a trucking and other intelligence gathering information for the southern pacific region

P5,SV/A – should be deleted
Our viewpoint is neutral. We just set up the poll and let the comments come to see where this goes 🙂
Is it the admission criterias that create the DXCC list or is it the facilities to activate/contacting those ones that must be taken into account?
I can’t reach the honour roll or work this entity so please delete this and that. Is it your point of view ?

Bob N4XU, this is wath i say, take them of the list and put those countrys into a special list. When thy are activated again then put them again on the DXCC list. But when reactivating a country the station(s) need to make at least let say 2000 qso.
Entities can and have been deleted then reinstated when circumstances change (e.g.., Kure, Midway). Since #1 DXCC is intended go be a lifetime (or at least, LONG time) endeavor, I feel that a reasonable compromise would be to delete “countries” from the list after 20 years of no activity.
DX’ing is not for sissies. Some countries requires an hard work to be activated, and our activity is beautiful because it is difficult, otherwise it would be less meaningful.
Its the same question about some countrys as P5 or EZ. Last activation is from 2002 from P5. The better way is to delete (keep them in a special status as country) those countrys who are not activated in let say 10 years. Keep those countrys “on hold”. When thy are activated again then put them into the DXCC list again for 10 years.
Gary is right. Several ‘zombies” have been created and it is time to delete them from the current list of entities. In addition to those mentioned by Gary, there is North Korea and a host of others. I know that the real serious DXers, who already have them confirmed, do not wish to see them deleted because it diminishes their status among all DXers. However, for some of us, we will never be able to contact them in our remaining lifetime, so it is ludicrous to keep them on the entities list – other than in deleted status.
Let’s recap the activity from this DXCC entity: the last major DXpedition was XR0X back in 2002, just a mere 19 years ago! Before that, most of the activity was by a fisherman (XQ0X) operating his radio in his spare time, back in the 90’s.
And now because of a tiny air strip and a coast guard station, there can be no activity at all?
Don’t we have any high ranking military dignitaries among our brotherhood of radio amateurs, that could shed some light into this.
The same would go for Pratas – 18 years since last activity. I start to see Taiwan now with different eyes. What about Scarborough Reef, just 14 years.
I think in the greed for more and more DXCC counters, we “created” some zombies …
Let’s put some effort now in getting the other rare ones activated, where “just” mother nature is the “enemy” 😉
