UPDATE – You have probably already seen a few days ago the first pictures from Tonga after the enormous volcanic eruption at Hunga Tonga island.
This post was initially to alert radio hams / IOTA chasers know that Hunga Tonga actually belongs to the OC-169 group, but earlier today we stumbled across quite dramatic before and after pictures of the island.
We’ve circled a couple of areas so you get a sense of the absolute destruction taken place. Click on the pictures and compare.

JANUARY 15 – It’s likely by now you have read about or watched footage of a massive underwater volcanic eruption at Hunga Tonga-Hunga Haʻapai. For radio hams / IOTA chasers, this particular island group belongs to OC-169.
As can be seen from the above link there’s been a few activations of Hunga Tonga – is it in your log?
